Benches

One of my first skills was as a woodworker and I love to return to this medium. These two benches are just finished and are for sale if you are interested. They are currently in a gallery, but if you are interested, please contact me.

These two benches are made from an old black walnut tree from my aunt’s father’s orchard. (Yes, that was confusing!) My mother had a stump that was over 5′ tall and quite large around. She had it for 25 years before she gave it to me and I had it milled. The simple supports are aniline died hard maple.

The “Tetris” bench above was inspired by the early video game of Tetris! I have million little pieces of cut wood remnants and this was a way to begin to use some of it in a creative way. This bench is made of a variety of woods with history. Poplar and oak from our old piano that died and was disassembled, eucalyptus from scavenging in my college days, old hickory flooring pieced together, walnut, mahogany, zebra wood and Purple Heart left over from college projects, among others. The top is a thick piece of ash.
