– Artist Statement –

Born to an artist mother and an engineering father, I have happily lived my life mostly in the middle. With a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering, and a masters degree in design, I equipped myself with a creative path and the skill to realize those creations. My work over the years has spanned from fine woodworking to the absurd. I find myself now drawn to that which we choose to discard. There is so much raw material for creation in the world – something my younger self, buying expensive woods and raw materials, had yet to learn. We live in a world of staggering beauty, filled with copious waste. The two are often interwoven. The world presents its beauty through nature, and we perceive it through our senses – sound, sight, feel. We have returned our waste back to nature, often a product of the human maladies of greed, inequality, fear, desperation. My work is inspired by this connection. My work is embodied by playfulness, and the beauty in everyday things – though I still make an occasional “fine” piece of woodworking! Almost always inspired by objects themselves, or the desire to share and connect through street art, I strongly believe that everyone should own art, and it should be affordable to all. And despite these changing times and the growing garbage piles, I still believe in beauty. It’s everywhere. You just need to look. And I hope my work adds to that beauty.
