Flowers

The flower project began as a way to add some creativity back into a tedious teaching life. And also to have some fun at home with the family. We studied a variety of flowers. Through that study we generated petal patterns and ways to cut, fold, and create a variety of different flower species. My son Wren kept a spreadsheet of the numbers of bottle caps that were flattened and cut – over 2500! The completed project was first displayed at the Flagstaff Recycled art show where we won the People’s Choice Award. The best compliment we had was from the director of the local arboretum who told me “I could recognize some of those flowers from across the room!” We created follow up displays for other shows around the state of Arizona. Here are some samples of the many flowers we created.
